Girls Empowerment Camp

Fire Chief Brian Fennessy has continued to express his vision of having a fully staffed, diverse workforce. Attracting and retaining the best requires dedication and long-term planning. A large part of OCFA’s recruitment plan is to develop and implement programs that promote attracting and hiring qualified and diverse candidates. Chief Fennessy believes that empowering and mentoring our youth is one key to success in gender equity and work force diversity.

To help make this vision a reality, the Girls Empowerment Camp in held as an annual no-cost two-day camp open to teens ages 14-18. The camp introduces participants to the fire service, and provides them with a realistic, hands-on overview of firefighting. The camp exposes the teens to all aspects of a fire service career and the essential requirements of being a firefighter.

The program also empowers campers with life skills and professional guidance that encourages them to pursue a career in public safety. The camp features six hands-on stations that include: Ropes and Knots, CPR/First Aid, Aerial Ladder Climb, Confidence Course, Roof Prop and Hose Handling. Your donation is also used to provide participants with an OCFA/GEC t-shirt, hat, water bottle, and backpack.
